The Hunza Valley is the crown of Pakistan's north: a ribbon of apricot orchards and terraced fields beneath 7,000-meter Karakoram giants like Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar. Once an isolated mountain kingdom on the Silk Road, Hunza is famous for the longevity and warmth of its Ismaili people, its restored Baltit and Altit forts, and the surreal turquoise of Attabad Lake. The Karakoram Highway — one of the world's great road journeys — runs the length of the valley toward Khunjerab Pass and China. Trekkers, photographers, and honeymooners all find their Shangri-La here. Spring brings clouds of apricot and cherry blossom, autumn sets the poplars ablaze in gold, and summer opens high treks toward Rakaposhi base camp and beyond. The predominantly Ismaili community is known across Pakistan for education and warmth, and village homestays offer genuine cultural immersion amid orchards and glacier-fed streams.
